Bleeding Heart Cafe was launched in May of 2008 and is a comfortable, communal area that seats 20 people inside and 50 outside on a beautiful open-air veranda. The café serves organic, free trade coffee and tea, as well as a delicious selection of local, organic and wholefood snacks sourced from community or social enterprises. Bleeding Heart is many things - a great place to meet friends, a cafe, an art gallery, a retail outlet and a wireless internet hub. However, when you visit us, in the historic School of Arts building at 166 Ann Street, you'll notice that we are a business with a difference. Sporting the motto, "Using our powers for good and not evil", we pride ourselves on our operation as a "profit for purpose" organisation. This means that every dollar YOU spend goes into funding charitable and community enterprise. Bleeding Heart Gallery is a large, refurbished, multi-purpose space which can hold up to 200 people and has been the home to works by many different established, innovative and emerging artists. Bleeding Heart actively focuses on supporting emerging artists, young people and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. This year, Bleeding Heart Gallery intends to showcase works by a number of original, contemporary artists from the Brisbane region and throughout Australia. Registration is now open for the next series of Brisbane Bizness Babes workshops, to be held at Bleeding Heart in the CBD. The workshops are designed to assist marginalised mums to set up and run their own businesses.
heARTbeat is an entralling and unique mash-up of contemporary classical music and cutting edge art. Taking place on July 10th in Bleeding Heart’s beautiful, heritage listed gallery space, the event is designed to marry the visual and musical arts in a way that’s entertaining and accessible for people of all ages and interests.
