Papercuts Collective Triple Zine Launch & Exhibition
Opening Thursday September 2nd 5pm - 10pm
Exhibition runs 1st- 3rd September
Zines are “Do-It-Yourself” independent magazines created by regular people. They’re usually made on photocopiers or home computers, printed in small numbers and circulated or sold at record stores, book shops, rock concerts, cafes or by mail order. Zines cover a variety of topics, but usually focus on the arts (especially music) and political and social issues.
The Papercuts Collective is a Brisbane based group of zine-makers who will be presenting their latest creations at Bleeding Heart. Bianca Valentino has been working on her zine, “Conversations with Punx : A Spiritual Dialogue” for six years. It features interviews with seminal punk and hardcore bands including Black Flag, Fugazi and X-Ray Spex, amongst many others. In stark contrast, Staples’ zine, “Whenever I See a Bearded Hobo on the Street, I’ll Think of You and Smile” is a travelogue documenting an adventurous three month stay in the U.S. Lastly, ”Demolish 6″ by Matt Limmer is an art-based hand constructed book, tying together work and words from artists and writers in Townsville, Brisbane and Sydney.
Papercuts Collective Zine Launch will also feature a photography and art display. All welcome! For more information, visit the Papercuts blog- http://papercutscollective.tumblr.com/
