Bleeding Heart is proud to present Hands On Brisbane.
This programme of craft workshops, demonstrations and Q&A sessions provides a fantstic opportunity for people to learn new skills, showcase local talent and add extra creativity to Brisbane.
These workshops are conducted by some of Brisbane’s finest artisans to give you a hands on approach to learning your new skill. With many classes also providing the materials you need to start straight away, all you need to do is turn up and start creating!

How to Register
* If you wish to register right now, we have a booking system through Sticky Tickets. This will allow you to book multiple tickets to as many events as you like.
* If you wish to pay by cash, you can do so by visiting Bleeding Heart during business hours Monday – Friday.

Rubber Stamp Making with Kay Watanabe
Join Brisbane-based printmaker Kay Watanabe for an introduction to carving rubber stamps.
The soft and easy to carve rubber used to make a stamp is an ideal place to start if you want to learn the basics of printmaking. The rubber stamp has become so popular in Japanese craft that it has its own category!
This workshop gives you the skills to create your own small artworks and stationary stamps using a soft, easy to work with rubber that is very similar to an eraser.
Cost $20 (+bf)
You may like to wear old clothing or bring an apron as we will be working with paints and inks. Participants must also wear enclosed shoes as we are working with sharp tools.

Terrariums with Simmone Spring
Back by popular demand!Want to create your own tiny garden that needs almost no input from you other than building it? Then a closed terrarium is just the right garden for you!Come along to create and decorate your own terrarium with moss and other natural bits and pieces. Then create little decorations to sit in the terrarium with felt, fabric and paper.You’ll learn how a terrarium works, where to display your terrarium, care for your terrarium and hints on how to collect your own moss so you can make more.
Cost $20 (+bf)
This cost includes all materials to create your own terrarium that you get to take home with you. A range of jars will be supplied on the day, however you may like to bring along your own jar. This workshop is for making a closed terrarium in a glass jar (with lid), however we will discuss open terrariums.

Paper Art Dolls with Sharon Lenehan
Join Sharon Lenehan for a little bit of fun art play therapy.
In this workshop we will create paper art dolls using a range of vintage paper resources. We’ve collected vintage books, magazines and other recycled materials to create our own little paper dolls that we will assemble as expressions of our creativity.

Introduction to Crochet with Sharon Crawford
Back by popular demand!
Learn how to crochet from the very beginning. Sharon will introduce you crochet starting with how to hold your hook, what hook to work with and what yarn to use. You will be shown how to do chain stitch, the beginning of all crochet, and then you’ll move on to other stitches.
With a maximum of 10 people and two hours to learn in, Sharon will be able to help everyone individually and you can move through each stitch type at your own pace.
Cost $20 (+bf)
Price includes a crochet hook and yarn that you get to take home with you.

Introduction to Lino Printing with Kay Watanabe
Join internationally trained printmaker Kay Watanabe for a taste of block printing (lino printing).
Lino printing is a process of carving out your design on the lino tiles with special tools, then creating a print with your carved block.
In this workshop we will design, carve and make a print from our finished tile.
Cost $25 (+bf)

Needle Felting with Simmone Spring
Needle Felting is a relatively new fibre craft that started when someone pulled a single felting needle out of a felting machine.
In this workshop Simmone will introduce you to the process and materials for needle felting as well as rovide hints and tips about how to work with and source appropriate fleece for needle felting and how to create felted works.
Cost $30 (+bf)
This cost includes a felting pad, needle, and enough fleece to complete a project on the day plus a little to take home. You get to keep the needle, felting pad and fleece.

Beaded Jewellery with Tracy L’allier
Would you like to learn how to make your own jewellery? Tracy, the founder of Frog n Beads, will work with you to design and make a pair of earrings and a necklace.
Choose from a selection of beads and coloured wire to create a one of a kind set of earrings and floating necklace.
Cost $30 (+bf)
This cost includes all materials and use of jewellery tools to create your earrings and necklace. You are welcome to bring some of your own beads along.
Participants should bring their reading glasses, if they need them, as this workshop does have detailed work.

Intermediate Crochet with Sharon Crawford
Ready to take your basic crochet skills to the next level? Sharon will introduce you to the next step in crochet.
In this workshop we will be starting a granny square, the basic pattern you need to create a huge blanket or a simple throw.
You will learn different techniques that help you with seamless choosing and changing colours, keeping your work square and finishing off. The stitches used for a granny square are chains, trebles and slip stitch.
It is essential that participants in this workshop know the chain stitch and the treble stitch (the slip stitch which can be easily picked up on the day).
This workshop will give you the skills you need to complete this blanket at home.
Cost $25 (+bf)
This cost includes a crochet hook and 1 ball of yarn per person.

Introduction to Sterling Silver Jewellery Making with Cathy McCarthy
This workshop will teach you all you need to know about creating your own pendant or earrings using the technique of cutting sterling silver sheet. You will have the choice of creating your own design or working from a selection of templates to start your master piece. You will be guided through the process of using tools, shaping, texturing and decorating your designs.
This is a great opportunity to try silver jewellery making. All the materials and tools you need to create your masterpiece will be provided. Your tutor for the workshop, Cathy McCarthy from Angelwing Jewellery, will be on hand to guide you and share her experience and tips with you, making this workshop both great fun and informative. You will leave with a new skill which you will definitely find addictive and unique, finished piece ready to wear or give to someone special.

Crochet a Koala with Lorena Balea-Raitz
Join Lorena Balea-Raitz to create a simple easy crochet koala that can be transformed into a funky fashion accessory. You will learn to crochet in the round and combine simple crochet technique with point lace technique.
Be creative with your colour block and your koala will be truly original. All you need is a crochet hook, yarn and the skills you learn in this workshop.

Screen Printing with Simmone Spring

This Screen Printing workshop will cover the very basics of Screen Printing using stencils. Using stencils to screen print is a cost effective and flexible way to achive a screened look without the cost and hassle of creating your own exposed screens.
Each participant will screen print a Tote Bag using their stencil.
This workshop will also run through the process of turning a simple sketch into a design suitable for screen printing using free software.

Perfumes with Aromatherapy with Elizabeth Greenwood
Have you always wondered how perfumes are created? In this new workshop you will learn how to create your own unique Aromatherapy perfume. Discover the exciting world of aromatherapy scents and how they can create a brand new scent. You will identify top, middle and base notes and the techniques of blending. Learn which essential oils fall into the floral, oriental, citrus, woody and spicy scent groups and how these mix together to create something that is uniquely yours.
Elizabeth is an Aromatherapist and Naturopath with many years of experience. She first studied Aromatherapy in 1995 from one of the pioneers of the industry and has been passionate about essential oils ever since. Elizabeth has lectured in Aromatherapy topics for the past 6 years. Catch Elizabeth’s enthusiasm as she demonstrates her unique approach to essential oils and gives you practical take-home tips to bring the scents into your own home.
